Daytona 1 gets the short stick here, but it has a larger fan base than its sequel, plus the game looks classy, so it makes up for this. Well, there's a few little errors, like those racing trailers on the Beginner course (Power Edition), but come on, the frame rate is spectacular, along with the details everywhere, etc. But I choose Daytona USA cause it's the most fun to me.Īge-wise, Daytona 2 looks really good. Is Daytona's intense racing scheme so mindnumbingly inferior to Initial D? It's all a matter of opinion, I suppose. But what I was talking about is the gameplay. Initial D surely outclasses Daytona 1/2 in the features department. Of course it is still extremely difficult to rank high in the IR but then that applies to all racing games! Games like Daytona, Outrun 2 and especially Scud Race punish you more severely. Tuning - Most racing fans love to tune cars Ĭard Collection - Gives the sense of 'ownership' over car ĭriving Style - People prefer the semi-realistic gameplay įorgiving Gameplay - It is quite easy to finish a 1P race, even you make some mistakes. Japanese Cars - Very much in fashion at present
Story Mode - The feeling of being a character from the series
Manga Licence - Having the comic licence generates mainstream appeal in the East and a cult following in the West It is natural for games to lose popularity over time But just to recap.Īge - Daytona 1 is over 10 years old and Daytona 2 is 7 years old. I already said why I think games like Initial D and WMMT are more popular than Daytona USA (back on the GameFAQS board). The reason I don't post on the GameFAQS Daytona 2 board anymore is simple: no one (apart from you) reads the posts! It makes more sense to post here so our comments can be seen by Daytona fans! Also I didn't play so much after achieving my target times and had moved on to Outrun 2 SP. its sad to see a game i played for a fair amount time go into the junkyard. but i guess it didnt have the high replay factor the other games have like Initial-D and Daytona 1. I'm very unhappy these days as a result and now I can't bear to visit the arcade anymore.īTW, rjay63, why don't you post at the Gamefaqs board anymore? I just want to talk to people about Daytona USA, but it's a mystery to me why my posts don't generate enough conversation. Basically, Daytona USA can't compete with modern Japanese sports cars. I got to see the arcade afterwards, and there were dudes playing it religiously, like DDR, ya know? Sitting around, talking with their buddies about their Toyotas and Nissans, etc. But I don't want to play Initial D, I want to play Daytona USA 2! I guess my opinions from the standard crowd. Now someone just explain to me why don't people like this game? I mean, they swapped out my game with Initial D. Rjay63, that is awful, cause they did the same thing with the Daytona 2 game in my Namco Arcade and broke the hearts of children everywhere. Last edited by lordviper63 on Thu 1:23 pm edited 1 time in total Oh btw, luckily I found someone to trade me a Battle on the Edge board for my Power Edition, so I should be all set soon! Too bad to hear about those Daytona 2 machines being removed.some people just don't know a good game when they see one. But they are in such bad condition it's not worth the high play price! Mad There are two other twin DLX machines in my city.
Maybe a lower price could've helped (still £1 a go, same as it was in '99) but I'm just glad I played it full-time just before it went! There was also so much competion from the other racers in the arcade. Sad Although I'm sad to see it leave, I can understand the reason why : it was an old game that didn't making enough money. Yesterday, the twin DLX Daytona 2 Power Edition was removed from Sega Park. Well, I do want the the version to match the cabinet, but I mainly wanted Battle on the Edge because I like the beginner oval course a lot more in that version.
I would suggest trying the forums at You may be able to make contact with an arcade owner who wants to upgrade their own Battle On The Edge cabinet.īTW do you find Battle On The Edge preferable to Power Edition or do you just want the correct version to match the cabinet? I'd even be willing to simply swap my roms with someone else's if they have them. Does anyone here have any ideas as to where I can locate the roms for Battle on the Edge? I've been having a difficult time tracking some down, as most arcade operators seem to have simply thrown them away when they upgraded to Power Edition. I just bought a Daytona USA 2 Battle on the Edge cabinet, but it came with Power Edition.
